Newfoundland has a Graduated Driver Licence program. It is designed to provide a step by step process so that a Novice Driver can obtain the skills and knowledge required to operate a motor vehicle safely.
Level 1 - Learner - Passed Written test - Licensed driver required in vehicle at all times. You must be 16 years of age to complete and pass the novice beginners written and vision exam. You must have a mark of 85% to pass the written exam. This is the Level 1 Learners permit. You will be required to spend 12 months at this level.
Note: This time is reduced to 8 months upon the successful completion of an approved Driver Training Program
Level 2 - Learner Licensed - Once you have passed your road test and passed you are a Learner Licensed Driver - You will still be required to have another Licensed driver with a minimum of 4 years experience in the vehicle with you between midnight and 5 am for a period of 12 months.
We recommend you register once you have received your Driver Training Permit. Or if you are going to write the test for your Driver Training Permit within 60 days. This will allow you to participate in up to 25 hour classroom training which will provide you with valuable training information for new drivers. Submit your registration as early as possible to ensure your space in the class room.
Students under the age of 18, must provide a parent/guardian signature on the registration form prior to beginning any classroom training.

Course Fee Payment: Payment in full at time of registration is always appreciated. However, we do understand budgeting and offer a payment plan of $300.00 deposit prior to or morning of classroom training and the balance in full prior to any in car training.
You will learn: Basic Car Maintenance - Basic Maneuvers - Rules of the Road - Driving in towns, cities, country roads - Hi-way Driving - Night Driving (if requested) - Ability to understand Traffic Lights and Traffic Signals - Responsible Driving - Decision Making to Avoid Accidents - Proper parking techniques in angle parking - Parallel Parking - Backing up techniques - You and the Law - Alcohol/Drugs and Driving Awareness.
You will complete up to 25 hours of classroom training, prior to any in-car training. You will be provided with all the classroom materials. You will be engaged in book materials and video instruction on all aspects of driving on roads and operating a motor vehicle, as well as testing on the materials taught. All course material is the property of Deer Lake Driving School
Once you have completed the classroom training, we recommend you follow up with months of personal practice at home with family or friends. Your In-Car training will be completed within the final 2 months of your 8 month training period. You will complete your in car driver training, just prior to your road test. We will book your road test for you using the training vehicle for your test.
Refunds: There are no refunds once class has been attended. Full charges are payable and due once class has been attended, regardless if the student has finished the full course or not. Refunds are only available if you cancel your registration prior to any start of classroom training. All training must be completed with in 1 year of your classroom start date.
NSF Cheques: There will be a $50.00 charge for any Non-Sufficient Funds Cheque, with no further credit extended
Training Certificate Replacement Cost: Please ensure the certificate received at time of completing the course is safely stored away. There is a $25.00 charge for any replacement certificate required.
